Testing Methods
Absorbency Rate
- Each cloth diaper was measured by submerging
it in 1000 ml. of water for one minute. The diaper was then removed and
hung to drip dry for 15 minutes. The absorbency capacity was calculated
by subtracting the dry weight of this diaper from the wet weight,
measuring in grams.
(Weight of 1 ml. of water = 1 g. 250 ml. = 8 oz. approx.)
Drying time
- A batch of 24 diapers were rinsed and spun-dry in an
Inglis Liberator 2-cycle washer and dried in an Inglis 2-cycle dryer on
"HOT" setting for an estimated number of minutes. The diapers were
checked in the dryer every ten minutes to assess dryness. The shortest
time to achieve dryness was then taken as the total drying time.
