The Art of Bleeding
One of the most outstanding difference between men and women is that women "bleed without dying", one that left a strong impression on the human mind, since the beginning of time. To our Stone Age ancestresses the menstrual blood was sacred. The word sacrament probably comes from sacer mens, literally sacred menstruation.

The Red Spot
Not a Pretty History Menstruation is not a good thing according to Western history. Most old medical and religious writings on menstruation discuss it as shameful, unclean or unhealthy. These beliefs come from very ancient menstrual taboos.

Go With the Flow!
All right, what's with all those links to places selling cloth menstrual pads and cotton tampons? Isn't that kind of gross? Why bother with the hassle when it's so much easier to throw a box of whatever in the shopping cart during normal store trips?
I used to have that attitude about alternative menstrual care. It didn't last very long. In fact, I had never heard of any type of alternatives to the national brands of pads and tampons until I was in my early 20s. I doubt I even knew what women used to use for periods before the modern stuff was invented.
