SHOPPING HINT: Next you need to cover these diapers with a diaper cover (also called a rubber pant, pull-on pant, soaker or diaper wrap, depending on the style) for waterproof protection. Unless you bought an all-in-one style diaper - which is an absorbent diaper and waterproof cover combined.

For a newborn, it is suggested that you start with at least 6-8 diaper covers.

For an older baby, you may only need 3-4 diaper covers per size.

It will depend on how often baby poop leaks onto your diaper covers and how often you are able to wash. Slightly damp covers can often be simply hung to air-dry, and re-used several times before wash day.
